THE SHEEP
Our flock is a cross bred dairy flock including primarily East Friesian as well as Awassi and Lacaune. We select for parasite resistance as well as parenting instinct, suitability to a grass-based diet, and cuteness!
The Friesian sheep originate from a region that includes Northern Holland and North-western Germany. They are the predominant dairy breed in North America and the milkiest worldwide. Awassi is a middle-eastern dairy breed and one of the so-called fat-tailed breeds. They’re super hardy and can thrive and produce lots of milk (second only to the Friesian) on scrubby pasture or in dry conditions. Lacaune is a southern French dairy breed, originating in the region known for the production of Roquefort!
Our original flock was gathered here from Tennessee, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. As we manage them here on this land and in this climate, we will continue to select for hardiness and they will continue to adapt to this place and time.
