LAND & ENVIRONMENT

We are lucky to farm this beautiful and giant piece of land in Central Vermont. The farm is 150 acres of woods and around 70 open. There are so many different ecosystems here–swamps, low wetlands, high wetlands, pastures, hemlock groves, sugar maple stands, ledges, ravines, one big brook and lots of small tributaries. Just about the only thing this farm doesn’t have is much flat land!

Since we arrived here, we’ve been getting to know the place, finding old trails and cutting new ones through the woods, testing the soils and amending them to support the long-term health of our flock, building garden beds and planting trees.

There were already so many amazing trees here when we arrived. And so many amazing perennial flowers! We’re planting trees and shrubs every year to feed us, to increase the diversity of our farm, add shade at the edges of pasture for sheep, and to support wildlife and our flock of sheep.

The farm has a beautiful spring-fed pond (with a zip-line, no less) that we swim in during the summer and skate on during the winter. We’re working to shape this land for now and for the future, as many many other farmers and stewards have done before us.
